There is so much going on in our world today; it is hard to know what to write. I have decided on righteous thinking as it pertains to good government.
The first thing I learned about righteous thinking was how to recognize it; what does it look like? A quote from Proverbs, “As he thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Thought precedes and produces all our actions. We know what one thinks by how he lives his life—good, bad, or otherwise.
I learned the best way to think righteously is to see the world from a divine point of view. The results are peace and harmony. We need to follow divine laws such as the ten commandments as expounded by Jesus in Matthew.
While allowing the effects of abuse to rule my life, I thought unrighteous thoughts. I made mistakes and failed to change, and my life was wide open to evil suggestions. Then I learned I needed to “let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts, and let him return unto the Lord.”
Once I discovered I was God’s creation, His idea, and was His image and likeness, I began to see what righteous thinking is. Divine thought made manifest in my life. Righteous thinking is our divine birthright.
Unfortunately, not everyone knows the above. It is so important that we allow God to govern our thinking and reasoning. Mrs. Eddy writes, “inductive and deductive reasoning is correct only as it is spiritual, induced by love and deduced from God, Spirit. Only as it makes manifest the infinite nature, including all law and supplying all the needs of man.” I found if my thoughts and reasoning did not fall in line with that, I needed to think again.
I learned I could not accept and act on the thoughts of others to solve my problems. I must go through the process mention above, make sure thy are induced by love and deduced from God. If not, I needed to reject their thoughts.
The Bible, Isaiah 9, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end,” This was predicting the coming of Christ. To me, this means that our government should be established using the principles Jesus taught, and in doing so, there will be no end.
In I Kings 3, when David passed on, and his son Solomon was taking over the rule of the country, “God said, Ask what I shall give thee.” Solomon answered, “Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?” The Lord was so pleased that he did not ask for long life, riches and the life of his enemies, but for wisdom, he answered, “Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart;” WOW, isn’t this what all those in government should be asking for.
There are so many unrighteous thoughts floating around in our nation today. I constantly evaluate the thoughts of our governing leaders. It is not easy; how do I tell the truth from the lies, facts from fiction? I do that by applying loving inductive and deductive reasoning. I check to see if they are following the Golden Rule, do they love their neighbor, if not then I look for those who are.
I know people who claim not to believe in God, but they live by God’s laws without knowing it. They are loving, caring people. They are concerned about their neighbors and live by the golden rule. They are good people and operate from principle. I mention this to let you know that I am not looking to see if they are religious or believe in God; that is not the point. The point is, are they, good people?
Our country needs our righteous thoughts now, more than ever before. When we vote, we need to be sure the ones we vote for are good people and are for “We the People.” Man should reflect God’s government, knowingly or unknowingly.
The Bible tells us to beware of false prophets. False prophets are those that will promise you the world if you follow them. In Matthew 4, the devil tempted Jesus and promised many things, “Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungered. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.” (Matthew 4:1–11) Jesus knew exactly how to put down evil. “Get thee hence, Satan”
Mrs. Eddy writes, “Like our nation, …” we have a “Declaration of Independence. God has endowed man with inalienable rights, among which are self-government, reason, and conscience. Man is properly self-governed only when he is guided rightly and governed by his Maker, divine Truth and Love.” Science & Health with Key to the Scriptures p.106:6
“Truth not error, Love not hate, Spirit not matter, governs man.” Science & Health with Key to the Scriptures p.420:3-4.
Go out and let your life reflect your thought and make it righteous for all will see. Make 2021 the best year ever.
